Monte Isola
THE LARGEST INHABITED LAKE ISLAND IN EUROPE
Encircled and protected by water, Monte Isola is one of the largest lake island in Europe, 600 metres above the sea level and 4 square kilometres wide.
The island houses several villages and itineraries that can be peacefully and easily travelled by bike or on foot to enjoy the wonderful landscapes of the lake island. Monte Isola has been the biggest producer of fishing nets of Italy until the 1970s. In the beautiful village of Peschiera Maraglio, there still are some workshops and some women that dedicate themselves to that ancient craft and, in the village of Siviano, there is the Museum of the Net, enriched by documents, photographs, objects and tools that refer to this peculiar job.
